About Roman Court
Roman Court is situated on the western end of the Antonine Wall and was occupied from approx 142 to 165 AD . Items discovered on the site indicate the fort was built by the twentieth legion.


Roman Court is built on the site of the Roman Bath House which was discovered and excavated from 1973 to 1979.
The bathhouse contained all major components of a second century Roman bath. These included a changing room (apodyterium); a cold room (frigidarium) and cold plunge bath; two warming rooms (tepidaria); a hot dry room, or sweatbath (sudatorium); and a hot room (caldarium). See diagram below
